Mel Wymore is a community activist and politician from New York City. He was the first transgender person to run for political office in New York City. Wymore was born on March 3, 1954, in New York City. He completed his education at City College and Columbia University. Wymore became the Vice President of the community board of his neighborhood in 1997 and served as its Chairperson in 2002.
Wymore is known for his work on issues such as affordable housing, health care, and civil rights. He has worked to improve the quality of life for marginalized people living in New York City. Wymore ran for City Council in 2013 but ultimately lost to his opponent.
Wymore is also an advocate for LGBTQ+ rights. He has worked with organizations such as the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center and the Human Rights Campaign. Wymore continues to be active in his community and works to create a more equitable society for all people.
